Since my beginnings I am seeking in my portraits the quality of vulnerability. I am currently exploring the female collective memory. A photographic essay on the comadre * on the mystical feminine nature, the facets of the innate vigor that resides in the feminine. These women, with their powerful courage and masterful, intuitive strength, know how to integrate silence and appropriate space with their coherent, sensual presence.
It is especially important that women reconnect with their mystical, ancient knowledge that they have carried for generations. When women connect with each other in traditional Sacred Women's Circles, this planets energy vibrates on another level. I want to give space to this archetype of woman because the aspect of change that arises in these gatherings is relevant.
The american poet and feminist Adrienn Rich sees in the connection that women make with each other: " (...) the most feared, the most problematic and potentially the most transformative force on the planet". The chilean writer Isabel Allender writes about this in her book The Soul of a Woman: "This is an exciting thought that could explain the unease that many men feel when women join forces. They fear that we are conspiring, and sometimes they are right. (...) Millions of them, linked together, could end patriarchy. (...) Female energy is inexhaustible, a renewable resource that needs nothing more than a chance."
* (Spanish) "I am your mother and at the same time you are my mother" from the book by psychoanalyst Clarissa Pinkola Estés' book Der Tanz der Grossen Mutter
This picture and above all the process while taking it, meant a huge shift in my work. It is the first one of a new series and has been nominated for the Prix de la photographie in 2022.
